One down

and two more to go! With the whole cleaning extravaganza that we are doing, one of my most important to do list points was to finish the duvet covers for the girls' beds. I finished one, and now I just have to gather strength to do the second one.

They are basically one giant pillowcase, and the backing is one big flannel sheet with one huge rectangle of one of the storytime fabrics (I think I bought it at Ikea last december!).

We also hung some of the girls' artwork and some prints I have bought for them in the past, but that so far used to sit with me in the sewing room, which also got some sort of nice look and clean up. We want our house to look and feel beautiful!

Part of our celebration of the Winter Solstice is to give the house a major clean...like...major! And to sing in each room, burn a candle in each room for a little while, decorate, burn incense and await in excitement this day. We don't do presents, we go for a walk, spend time together, invite deep thinking while we are outside in nature, and at night, when the girls are in bed, Derek and I write down our wishes for the coming year and revise what we did this year. I meditate on this day. I normally don't do it a lot, every now and then when I find myself alone, I light some incense and a candle and try to do it. When I go for walks by myself down to the lake I always sit and contemplate the waves...but right now is freezing so I don't get to do it a lot.

I think that this year we will invite a few friends to make beeswax ornaments and candles with them. It seems appropriate to me to have some creative activity going on, especially related to "bringing light". Also, the beeswax will completely infuse the house and provide a true heaven of positive energy around us. See you on Wednesday!

What lovely traditions! I especially love preparing each room in your house. Thank you so much for sharing. I think I may borrow a bit from you this year and sit down with my husband tomorrow night by candle and discuss our hope for the coming year. Have a beautiful day tomorrow.

Me encanta la idea de hacer un sobre cama para mis hijas. Lo pondre en mi to-do list ;)
