The whole issue of having "agendas", "calendars", and special places where one marks the passage of time has always been one of my favourite things in life. As Finnieluchis and Adicalomeli grow we are able to indoctrinate their little brains into this wonderful activity of "keeping track". I am not much of a scrapbook fan, or family album keeper, but I do love to make things like this.
It is not fancy, it is totally recycled, and it was made by the girls. Basically, we cut out squares of newspaper, I wrote the numbers from 1-25 and the girls had fun polluting it with stickers and colouring the numbers. It helps them visualize how many more days until the "Longest Night of the Year" (the solstice) and Christmas morning. They gave me ideas for activities they wanted to do, I drew a symbol for each thing and we glued them onto the days that we thought were good for said activities. We strung it across our dining room and voila...times passes by. There are no gifts attached to it...and I like it that way. But it's full of fun!
Our house looks more and more festive every day. Simple things that make us all get excited and realize that this year is coming to an end. We'll get our tree this week and then it's all lights and baking...I hope you too are enjoying the little tidbits of preparation.
