Los handmades

In the shape of my first, ever, knitted garment, for a human: my oldest daughter. A lot of firsts go hand in hand with this sweet babe of mine. My first cake. My first doll. My first vest. I have sewn for her, crochet hats and mitts, and also knitted hats for her, but no actual garments.

This, like most of my productions, came from the heart and from  my noggin. I did not follow a pattern and was actually surprised at how easy and rather fast (once I actually got knitting...) this piece came to be. I am so pleased and happy I made it for her, and the best part is she picked the yarn, took all the measuring stints with polite demeanor, and says she likes it. She wears it to school to keep her chest warm. I am super happy.

And I forgot to post photos of the school backpack I made for her. I wanted to mark her first day of school with something special, made by me, and so of course I had to give it a go. I think next year it's not going to be good, since she is going to have to lug around more stuff, but for this year it's perfect. I love it and she really likes it. It is loosely based on the pattern from this book. I took some of the dimensions but didn't really follow the instructions or cut the pieces the same...I have issues following patterns, it is much easier for me to see something and then try to assemble it whatever way my brain tells me.

The vest and the backpack are beautiful, Fabs! Love the colors or the vest. Love the squirrel button, the pockets and design of the backpack. Impressive!

Hi Linda ;-) the colours of the vest were chosen by my daughter, she seems to have great taste when it comes to expensive yarns! and the design of the backpack is borrowed from a famous french designer (link in the post). All I can claim is some praise on execution and I am not even sure there is something to be praised about ;-)
