Today, we have snow outside. But you know what? no matter! we are happy that Spring has finally arrived and that we are going to be able to enjoy more and more sun every day. It has actually been pretty darn nice, up until yesterday when we woke up to 2 inches of snow. Gone by the afternoon...and some sprinkling today. I've been working like crazy to bring these group of faeries to fruition. I wanted them to be around for the actual Spring Equinox and I was off by a week, so that's not too bad.
These two cuties up here are called Sunrise Faerie and Sprout Faerie, and let me tell you they are my pride and joy these two. I've drawn their clothes at least 9 or 10 times, re-sketched the whole thing, trying to gather inspiration from their yarns and fabrics, tried so hard to be quiet and still to let them "speak" to me and everything came together so nicely in the end! I am pretty happy with their vibe.
The new designs for this set of faeries are: the antennaes! (I had so much fun and nightmares trying to figure out how to do these properly, specially with little fingers in mind); the new design for hairbands (wool felt and embellishments according to season and attire); wing style (from previous butterfly-looking to a one wing design), they look more like drangonfly wings in the sense of all those tiny little veins running across the wing; their dresses are different than the previous kimono-style too; I knit a shawl for the first time, and it was so easy-peasy I had to make them all one; and finally: the cocoon. Derek and I had so many discussions, his vision/my vision...I think I am going to make a few tweaks to this design and make them like the papoose. I am pretty pleased with it, but I want this type of cocoon to be for the faeries only. I will make more available, simple options to go with normal dolls...or should I just keep it this earthy and embellished?
